On the surface, an Elysium of unsurpassed splendor. Beneath, something sinister lurks...

Elijah Robert Marks

Elijah considers Gwynhala's suggestion.

"But, isn't the deal with the really old vampires that they sleep, and then they wake up and eat their progeny?"

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The thing is, Lady Amara, I feel reasonably sane. All things considered. I mean, I don't feel particularly calm these days, but other than the incident where someone who may or may not be Caine or Enoch wiped my mind for a bit, I haven't had an blackouts that I'm aware of..."

ooc/ I don't have access to any Malkavian source material, but I'd assumed that it was the sire who would drive the fledgling insane, as part of the "induction ceremony" (kind of like the sabbatt burying their new recruits)... and so I'd figured that by being caitiff the whole insanity process wouldn't have occurred. I may be acting on faulty information, which means if I want to be true to my backstory I'll either have to switch sires, develop a mental illness, or pull one hell of a deus ex machina out of my hat... /ooc

Nikodemus

OOC: Nobody really knows why Malkies are Malkies. Sometimes the Malk grabs someone a bit 'off' to begin with. But even the same ones eventually develop a lunacy of some sort. Their sires don't drive them insane, that's a function of the blood. Now usually, their sires help them along....

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC: Well, perhaps desperately trying to fight off insanity will make for good roleplaying.

im good on Malkavians

1 when malks decide to embrace they pick some one either with some derangement present or on the verge, those who have or are close to nervous breakdowns are fun,

This does not apply to your character

2A malk once embraced naturally goes mental in some way based on an inherent flaw, someone who has mood swings/seems like two people will have a fractured personality and some times those personalities have physical differences ie disciplines rearranged.

This would not happen to you

3 how far a malk progresses depends on how much they resist, high resistance low malk status but highly lucid, of course if they sink into their derrangement far enough they become quite lucid again,

4Not all malks are loons, some are homicidal sociopaths, sadistic fiends and twisted schemeing manipulators whose plans drive you mad in their maddening layers and twists(cunning madness).

Malkavian sires do not make thier childe go nuts it is an inherrent curse in the blood of malkav and his progeny, just as a Nosfer is twisted into a hideous form upon embrace, a Lasombra becomes VERY pale and loses their reflection etc. These are blood based curses supposedly laid down by Caine. The sabbat ritual is meant to purge the vamp of humanity

it works

Ahh Discussions on the origins, i have two things to say

1the only sources are the ancients themselves
2even if they didnt kill you they would lie as much as they could get away with which is alot

The reason the ancients feast on kindred as they have vast appetites and the ancients have a curse that they can only gain sustenance from kindred blood, or at least so goes the tale.

for example (studies a copy of THE book)

I have read much kindred lore, now if you take things literally the evidence says ashur was one and all of several different kindred of different generations, my sires personal opinion which he used his library to justify was that ashur was the catch all name of the ancients when they wished annonymity, they did not want a record saying capadocious or Haaquim or Mithras so they called themselves Ashur, the number of conflicting texts, histories and legends suggest at least two beings claimed to be Ashur and were probably listed under other names

(in evidence Darkana walks of finds a large number of book cases and looks for some books, then comes back with several books and lays them on the table on certain pages she the goes and gets a few more on legends and other mortal histories)

OOC

FOR REFERENCE

see assorted WW books, clan books system books clan novels and resources that mention Ashur, I cant honestly remember which ones but it is true and at Warsoc(roleplaying society at QMW university London that is the theory, read carefully the anwser is in there)

Its people like you that give kindred a bad name,
its people like me that makes it worse

Eli: Naah. Boring as all get out.

To the denizens of the Chess Room:

I advise that you pore over the details of what occurred in that room again. There are a few salient points which are being overlooked and/or forgotten that could feasibly further the action. (Diffusion set in with the philosophical banter...)

Just an FYI. I've sent/am sending PC info to a few of you.

Carry on.

Krouser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*chuckles at Amber's stereotypical response, as he rises from behind the counter, bearing his empty flask, and a bottle of vitae.*

"Immortality is nothing. The decay of the human body begins from it's birth. The very act of living is constant rebirth. In theory, if the proper genetic material were stimulated, the aging process could halt, or even reverse. Where is your argument then? Does our suposed superiority rest in power? clearly not. The shamens of my tribe can raise sandspirits, conjure decimating wind storms, and direct eldrich energies the likes of which would make a tremere's knees turn to water."

*caps off the flask, and closes the bottle.*

"We are not living humans, to be sure. We may exist perpetualy, and we may have power, but at it's core, we are still humans. Dead humans, humans with the strength of will to deny death, but humans none the less. Any attempt to convince ourselves otherwise is futile self deception, ment to coddle our bruised human ideals."

Gwynhala
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*returning his attention to the chess board*

"Now, if the black pieces represent the get of Enoch, we might conclude some things about both the players and the game..."

"What's this?"

*his eyes follow the line of letters engraved on the board-bearing table. he translates, aloud, the latin inscription*

"Camarilla and Sabbat - 2000"

*back to the board itself now*

"Hmph! And no kings. But queens all around. Voracia in black," *motions to her piece*
"...and a mysterious woman in white."

*he inspects, for the first time, the face of the WHITE QUEEN, finding it, to his surprise, masked, expressionless but for a single teardrop escaping the corner of her left eye*

(to coterie)
"Would anyone here say that there is a single leader of either the Camarilla or the Sabbat?"

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"From what I've heard, there are plenty of single leaders of the Camarilla and the Sabbat. Just ask them, they'll tell you."

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

Gwynhala
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"But you see what I'm getting at...if the board represents Camarilla and Sabbat, and there is no single leader of either sect, there would be no kings...."

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, but the problem with that is, does that mean that Altiriel, Vash, Voracia and I represent the Camarilla, or the Sabbat? And if we represented the Camarilla, why would the other side represent the Sabbat? Oldan doesn't really strike me as one of Larson's flunkies...

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

OldanVisuce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If this game is Camarilla vs. Sabbat, what am I doing on board!?

Oldan have no part in power-battle between the...*trails off* Is someone saying Oldan is pawn to one of the sects?

It would not make sense, because I ehh, live like those of Altiriel's clan, and Altiriel is black? *frowns* I think is Jyhad. Somehow, we are enemies, unknowingly.

Papa had nothing to do with Camarilla OR Sabbat, and he was *pauses* fallen king. I stick with idea of Kings do not show until game is set the way they want it. Then they show ugly face.

So, if Niko is on my side, what do Niko and I have in common? What do you of the Black side have in common? We must think upon this. Also I would like to see other boards in the big room. Maybe have more clues.
*pauses and shakes his head* Did I just say we need more clues? It IS bad episode of Scooby Doo!

*Wanders back the way the candles mark*

/OOC/ We are in the Hall again right? I thought I saw a post by Elijah that said we returned to the main hall.

Krouser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Same here. Nither do you, Eli. It's far more likely that the color is inconsiquential to the affiliation. simplify the situation. If 'good versus evil' is becoming to combersome a definition, change it to 'us versus them.'"

*walks out from behind the bar, and pulls up a plush footstool, so he can participate in both conversations at once.*

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ok, so how's this for speculation?

"The game board represents Jyhad. That would make sense, since a previous gameboard showed Ravnos suddenly appearing, overturned, at the end of the game... a loser in the Jyhad.

"That would mean that the missing kings are actually Antediluvians who don't show up until they lose.

"That would also shed some light on Gwynhala's suggestion that perhaps this Tall Man is someone who has a stake in how the game turns out. Someone very old. I don't really want to dwell on that, though, because quite frankly it creeps me out.

"So let's assume that in the initial game, the Kings have us set up against each other. In other words, the original gameplan was for Niko and Oldan, among others, to be moving in opposition to Alitiriel, myself, Voracia and Vash, among others.

"But... that didn't happen. And, I went off a-wandering and stumbled on a room that I wasn't supposed to see. And now we're sitting here, faced with the prospect that we were supposed to be used in a Jyhad against each other's respective Kings. But I don't think it likely, at this point, that any of us feel terribly cooperative.

"So how does that sound for a recap? Plausible? And more importantly, what do we do next?"

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

Krouser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"There is also a far less paranoid possibility."

*glances at Elijah as he speaks*

"This was all taken from HIS (ooc/ Elijah's /ooc) room, and we're all puttering over the symbolism of his inner fears."

*considers for a moment*

"that's assuming that the goal of the rooms is to cause fear, which may not be true. In any case, The tall man may be nothing more than a figure intended to be enigmatic and powerful. We've been assuming that he is, A) real, B) Kindred, and C) anything more than a tall man that has yet to make his presence known outside of one room."

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Good point, but Altiriel saw the man with me. And the Tall Man spoke directly to Altiriel. So it doesn't seem as though it's 'my room' -- in fact, it looks as though either I'm the lucky guy and I don't have to go through that, or... well, or we just haven't found it yet."

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

OldanVisuce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Oldan started for the hallway leading back to the chess room and stops, looking angry. He then walks back to the chess board and moves his piece into a more defensive position. Then he shouts to the hall:*

What do you think about that? It wasn't even our turn!

*cringes as if regretting saying it and waits as if expecting to be hit by lightning*

I wonder how many battles in Jyhad Oldan is being used? Two at least? Almost scared to know. If I go in that room and I am on 15 different boards, what does that mean?

*stares at the chessboard, blankly then tosses himself into a nearby plush chair, sideways*

I don't think I want to see that room anymore. Is there anyone brave who would do this? I may come, but.... the idea of seeing the Jyhad tactics is...disturbing.

Krouser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I found a bloody handprint on the door I tracked your scent to. I can only assume that you where there, and that you've yet to recover the memory. The only other solution is that the back halls twisted as you stumbled back, and droped you in front of that room. Since the hall has yet to be that obvious in its alterations, I find it unlikely."

Gwynhala
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Well what about the inscription on the table then? I doubt the table is a souvenir of some joint Camarilla / Sabbat gala event earlier this year."

"On the Ravnos board, Ravnos was king. A storyteller earlier told of seeing, through a portal, the death of Ravnos at the hands of Tremere operatives. Now the Tremere..."

*checks BOOK*

"...are descended, in a twisted kind of way (sez here) of Enoch, and Ravnos and Enoch are both get of Cain. Thus, the Tremere killing Ravnos meets the Tall Man's criteria of 'brother slays brother'. Game over, and any leftover pieces - like Oldan here - move to a new game."

*thoughtful pause*

"Or maybe we play in more than one game at a time...still, I can't see how our white / black affiliations were chosen either."

"I'm with Oldan's earlier idea - I'd like to get a look at some of the other chess boards."

*rises, and starts off the way Oldan had gone. realizing he does not know the way, he turns to ask*

"Oldan? Altiriel? anybody? how do I find these other chess boards? I only saw the one we removed from the tea room."

Vash
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Vash lays slumped against the bartop, listening in to the conversations around him. He slowly sits up and picks up his drink*

Hmmm...

*Vash stands up and slowly glides over to Amber. He stares at her for a few seconds, weighing the pros and cons. With a gritty determination, he tosses his glass away and stands up straight, putting his "handsome" face on. He leans down close and smiles warmly*

Why, hello there Miss...?

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Unfortunately, that will be kind of difficult. The other chess boards were sort of an illusion, or vision. There's no way they could have fit in that room, it was like we were looking in a graveyard of dead games. But the room disappeared... though I suspect we could start looking for the room, if indeed it does exist."

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

OldanVisuce
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What do you think would happen if we tried to play game on this board? I am curious if what happens on the board affects our real life. Or is this just a scoreboard?

*whispers to Elijah* I think that Vash still has hormones. He act like teenager.

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I don't think moving pieces on the chessboard will actually cause anything to change in the real world... not with us doing it, anyway."

Elijah glances at Vash in amusement.

"Vash, the Vampiric Lothario?"

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

Vash
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Vash's gaze slowly moves to Oldan and Elijah. With a shrug of his shoulders he speaks*
How can I resist such pretty, young ladies?

OldanVisuce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I still think we need to find out what we have in common.
Maybe has to do with origins? I am from farther east, so is Niko. Are the rest of you from Western world? Maybe is geographic Jyhad?! *shrugs* Am just throwing ideas into air.
