Most of the actual roleplaying of
the Wayward takes place in the Sanctum
Aeternam, a message board created by and for people interested in roleplaying
in the backdrop of White Wolf's Vampire: the Masquerade and the rest of the World
of Darkness resources. This page serves as an introduction for anyone unfamiliar
with either the role-playing game or the nature of role-playing on a message board.
Please read this section carefully before trying to participate. Essentially, each person using this
board portrays a character in a world we are all creating. In the "In-Character"
and "Chronicle" forums, people participate by writing lots of stories
and pieces of stories that come together to provide the details of an entire world.
Look over everything that has been done before you start posting to get a feel for
the styles and stories that have already taken place. When you are posting in the In-Character
forums, you must be either posting in character (i.e., describing in your post what
your character is doing and saying) or providing exposition or detail that fleshes
out your surroundings and advances the storyline. It is considered bad taste to
control the actions of another character, except only in very minor ways, and such
actions may be nullified by the 'real' character if he/she feels they are inappropriate. If, while in the In-Character Forum,
you feel the need to say something out of character (in order to clarify something,
or ask for clarification, or propose a change in the setting) you have two options.
If the comment is very specific to what is going on at the time, simply place the
words "OOC" before your comment. This will let the other characters know
that you are speaking as yourself and not the person you are portraying. If the
comment is large, or isn't immediately applicable to the situation, use the OOC
Commentary forum. You can post without using the "OOC" tags. However,
please make sure your post has to do with the world of the Wayward. The Out of Character Forums deal
with details that aren't specific to the world itself. This forum is for new people
who want to learn more about how this board works. The General Discussion area is
a place where all board members can chat out of character about anything they want.
And the Administrative and Message Board Issues area is a place where anyone can
make recommendations, request features and changes, and criticize the way the board
is run. The Chronicles area is a bit different.
Eventually, the Chronicles area will host more "traditional" Storyteller-driven
Vampire games that take place within the world we're creating. These forums may
or may not be accessible to the general public at the Storyteller's discretion. Finally, please understand that the
people using this board are interested in serious roleplaying. If you start disrupting
what we're trying to do, we may decide to block your access to the board. This isn't
something that will be done arbitrarily, and it's not something that only one person
can decide to do on a whim, but it is something that can and will be done if necessary.
More information will appear in this Messageboard as the opportunity presents itself. The Wayward website will serve as
both an archive of the Sanctum Aeternam -- by taking significant threads and re-posting
them here in the "History" section -- and by storing important information
that was introduced in a thread that may be considered either common knowledge or
important backstory/character development. The Wayward can be accessed as a role-players
resource so the characters can make certain they're up to date on who knows what
and what's going on. |
