On the surface, an Elysium of unsurpassed splendor. Beneath, something sinister lurks...

Krouser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*to Elijah*

"Now you know better."

*to Voracia*

"Make no mistake, Ma-e, Nothing in that room frightened me. P***ed me off, maybe, but none of it frightened me."

*to Gwynhala*

"knowing that a shamen can only perceive what exists, and knowing that a shamen has perceived every now, logic would dictate that every now must exist in sincronisity. keep in mind that I haven't seen it myself, I'm just quoting philosophy."

Gwynhala
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(to Krouser)

"Conceded. The shaman chooses a path on which, indeed, all things happen at once. And this path serves him, and his people, well."

"Even the Holy Church acknowledges that, while God sees all things at once, Man has free will to choose his path. When pressed, most clergy and teachers will say only that the how and why of this is 'a mystery of the Church.' Just as Jesus did not say 'There are no Oracles,' but rather 'Do not consult Oracles'. What is the sin in consulting an Oracle? The sin is that you have surrendered your birthright of free will and taken a path - through time - dictated by another."

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"None of which," Elijah says, gesturing towards the chessboard, "seem to accurately describe our unknown Grand Master."

/OOC/ A day and a half, and you guys fill SIX pages? Wow, how is a guy supposed to keep up when he is sick? /OOC/

*During the philosophical debate going on, Oldan has been staring at the chess board, apparently deep in thought. Silent, and unusual.*

Friend Elijah, did you say Ravnos was Black King? How could Ravnos be Black King and me be White Knight? It seems that the Kings are Antediluvians. If this is true, that would mean the lack of Kings means the play goes on as normal untill a King appears. A King appears upon Awakening.

So, the players try to move us into position untill the board is set, then they Awaken? I just do not understand. Almost as confusing as your Zen talk!

I once knew Ravnos who said that EVERYTHING was an illusion. He stated that all "reality" was an illusion created by Ravnos, and that we were just his imagination at work. I always passed off Gregor as being a little, ehh, odd. I know this does not have much to do with your "time" talk, but is along same lines. Besides, I haven't said anything in almost fifteen minutes! Don't want you to get used to silence from Oldan!

Why does Oldan have to be Knight? Knights are the first pieces to die, besides pawns!

/OOC/ When Niko said something earlier about having to be on the same side as the gypsy, Oldan BEAMED him a giant cheesy grin! /OOC/

Altiriel Twice-Born
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Knights are the only pieces that can pass through the other pieces undisturbed. They are also the only pieces that do not move in straight lines."

Sudsaroo
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*An old man who looks like he's been living in a dumpster for the last 50 years walks in. He stops right before the group at the chess table and stares. His eyes speak of a knowing for what these strangers are. Slowly the mans skin begins to crawl. His bones stretch and his form changes. All transformations rest upon the form of a woman more beautiful than the rising sun. A beauty that has never been matched before. Her arm lift and her fingers stretch out before her so that she may grab a glass in front of her filled with Vitae. The fingers slowly receed bringing the glass to her tender sweet lips. You watch as she consumes the vitae with such grace and beauty that has never before been seen.*

*She Speaks*

Good evening to you. I was wondering and noticed the large congregation in the alley outside. After giving Lillith some pigeons and meeting my old acquaintance Tetzghul I decided I'd better come in here and introduce myself. I am Amber of clan Tzmisce. You can accept this form as my true one if you wish. I've changed shape so many times I don't remember what I looked like when I died.

*She sits in a deep leather chair*

I am well aware that the reputation of my clan is less than shall we say honorable. I tell you know that I have come inside to contribute and be a part of this intellectual conversation. It's so uncommon to find Kindred with a mind worth examining. Especially among my clan. Those beasts are so consumed with aranchy and violence they wouldn't know if the sky fell down.

Amber

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elijah stares at Amber suspiciously.

"I for one find it a bit strange that you were able to find us so... easily. Everyone who has come this far -- well, everyone but me, anyway, and perhaps Lady Voracia there -- has gone through... difficulties."

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

Gwynhala
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(to Elijah)

"What Grand Master? And what do you mean, 'difficulties'? I nearly got roasted on my way here - you too?"
(ooc: wanted: plot device that will get me caught up without a lot of new exposition. reward. as far as i know you've all just been playing chess and breaking windows and talking about golconda - pretty standard intellectual brujah get-together fare when some young ones are around.)

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elijah retells the story of his initially finding the room, being brainwashed to forget it, finding it again with Altiriel, and the Tall Man's dialog.

OldanVisuce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, Knight is tricky piece. Could be why I am knight. However, is still scary. Knights always first to die.
According to so called "Vampire Bible" shouldn't that be Nastyferatu? I would think of Ravnos to die last! Yes? We tend to, ahh, survive rather well. *after looking guilty for a second* Okay, okay, we run like chickens from our own shadows! But, we still do tend to survive.

Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC:Wow, I wasn't even gone an entire day and you break out in a discussion of time and bring up Golconda again.

David looks up from the chess board and over to Gwynhala.

"Yes, most of us here have had certain difficulties while roaming the halls."

David begins to describe events that happened to himself and others. He leaves out specifics stating only that they found rooms and had difficulties. He also explains why the group was formed to search out Elijah and Altiriel.

(To Elijah)

I don't know about you not suffering difficulties. From what you told us earlier it sounds like your first encounter with the Tall Man was pretty difficult. Maybe the reason that you didn't experiance something from your past is because you have almost no past as a vampire.

------------------
I have forgoten my past, now if only it would forget me.-David

Gwynhala
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(to Elijah)

"If I've heard correctly, the Tall Man said brother must slay brother, and one of the chess boards was marked RAVNOS. Earlier in the Great Hall, we were sharing stories. A man told a story of the death of the antedeluvian Ravnos at the hands of the Tremere. I don't have a good understanding of genealogy, although I think I remember meeting a Cainite genealogist in the Hall."

(to the coterie)

"Does anyone here know of a tie between the Tremere and a sibling of the antedeluvian Ravnos?"

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ooc/ Note that Lady Amara's comments on my ties to the Malkavians were in the context of a journal entry, and as such would not be common knowledge, it's just mood enhancer and foreshadowing. OTOH, Elijah had said once that he believed his sire was Malkavian -- but that was well before Gwynhalla entered the room, b/c Elijah had exited the Great Hall before Gwynhalla entered. /ooc

Nikodemus turns.

"it is precisely because it is artificial and made up that it is NOT real."

to Gwynhala

"Because a 'true' Zen master perceives/believes all time exists at once, your statement is false. There is no 'passively through time at a fixed rate'.

Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looks at Niko

"This talk of time reminds me of another question I have heard. It goes, If no one is looking at or observing something is it really there."

"My answer to that is usually something like this. Does it really matter. If it is like that every time someone looks at it or has anything to do with it does it really matter what it is if no one is around."

"Thats the way I see time. Does it really matter if everything happens at the same time if we can only experiance it as a progression of events or maybe sometimes in brief flashes of insight that we call precognition."

"Going back to the example of the 2-D creature experianceing a sphere. Does it really matter to that creature that the object it sees as the birth and death of a circle is really something completly different if it is not capable of experienceing it in any other way."

Considers for a moment

"Of course this argument doesn't mean as much if that 2-D creature is able to somehow trancend and become a 3-D creature. Which may or may not apply to humans and those like them.

*time sequence: during the debate on the nature of time, prior to elijah telling gwynhala about the tall man, etc., in response to nikodemus' rebuttal*

(to nikodemus)

"When the Zen Master comes to believe that all time exists at once, he has either taken the same path as the shaman, or he continues to exist in the moment but realizes that in another frame of reference all moments exist simultaneously. I concede that you have refuted my analogy of the Zen Master in part, since many paths can lead to the same result, but your refutation does not challenge the fundamental model of time that I described. That model is what is important. What the shaman believes, what the Zen Master believes, are paths in time, ways of relating to time. Each of these has developed a mental, physical, or spiritual discipline that allows him or her to transcend the flatlander's understanding of time IN A SPECIFIC WAY. Which raises the question, are there other such disciplines? Nothing in the model appears to prevent it."

Amber is in the Great Hall, not in the Upper Room.

2nd post in thread:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Need more new people in Great Hall!

[/OOC]

Gwynhala
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*on the heels of his question regarding the siblings of ravnos, a more chilling prospect occurs to gwynhala*

"Elijah, did you say that the Tall Man refered to both you AND Altiriel as 'my progeny'? You share the same color on the chess board. What are your clans?"

*gwynhala eyes the bookcase, wondering if the collector who prized Sun Tzu's 'Art of War' would also own a text on cainite genealogy*

Krouser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*checks his flask, noticing that it is near empty*

"Why don't we pick up the chess board, and move to the great hall. It's starting to feel a little crowded in here, and the seating leaves something to be desired."

*waits for a response.*

Krouser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*noteing no response, Krouser nods, and starts to leave*

"fine, then, I'll wait for you back in the antechamber. I'm getting tired of this philosophy stuff anyway."

*walks down just in time to catch Amber pull her big introduction. He takes a nip off his flask, and eyes Amber. Not the same baleful accusing gaze he reserves for Larson, but curiosity and suspicion bound in one. He seals the flask and returns it to it's place within his duster. he wispers under his breath*

"Tkele-cho-gi din-neh-ih Tzimice, ni-ghai a-tah-gi-nah."

*speaks to Amber.*

"You'll have to forgive me if I don't bow, Tkin. Things have been strange enough around here without a Honaghaahnii in the mix."

Vash
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Vash stands up and stretches*

I think Mr. Krouser has the right idea... I'll be in the Great Hall. Maybe there will be some pretty women who will give me the time of night in there...

*Vash walks out the door, scratching his back. After a few wrong turns he shows up in the Great Hall and takes his usual seat at the bar. He leans over the bartop and makes himself a drink, then takes a sip*

Ahhh... this is much nicer then some chessboard!

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elijah sighs heavily at Gwynhala's question.

"I am Caitiff," he says. "I have no clan. Technically, I think my sire was Malkavian.

"I think Krouser has a pretty good idea... assuming fire doesn't strike from the sky if we attempt to move this thing... we might as well pull it back into the Great Hall where it's at least more comfortable."

Hey Neuro, I think Amber definately placed herself in the chessroom. She mentioned the chessboard and the fireplace specifically when she introduced herself.

Lady Amara
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*the large door bursts open with a loud boom as a figure comes limping in. Shrouded in a cloak she manages to lower the hood as she stuggles to stay on her feet. With burn marks across her face and dripping in a liquid everyone knows too well.....Amara grasps an envelope in her hand. "E.R. Marks" is printed on the front. She walks close to the crowd, closes in on Elijah, seems to block out the pain as she leans in very close to his face with a surprisingly peacefull SANE expression.....*

"Sorry I'm late....."

*At that moment she collapses on the floor, hold the envelope as if her life depended on its safe keeping....*

Lady Amara of the Clan Malkavian. Lest the truth escape you...

ooc/ Amber here, I had thought that the Chessboard was in the main hall. Ignore the chessboard stuff. I"m in the main hall by the bar./ooc

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quite understandable. I seek no honour or respect from you or any other kindred here. Only a chance to talk with those who have something worth saying.

Elijah Robert Marks. I would know why you seek to play chess at all. Have you not come to the point where you will never know the true will of Elders, Methuselahs, and Antideluvians. My philosophy on life, and it is life, is that live and be content. Do not make vain attempts to search for meaning. There is none other than your existence.

And all of this talk of us being dead is ludicrous. We are not human that is certain. However we are not dead. We have free will, we are animated, and we are not ghosts. We have cells, and we have needs to sustain ourselves. We are certainly not dead. We are ALIVE. And what a great time to be alive too. *a strange smile breaks across Amber's perfect face.*
