On the surface, an Elysium of unsurpassed splendor. Beneath, something sinister lurks...

One more thing--

I would assume that if a character so states something to the effect of,

"I fill them in on what just happened,"

then the player knowledge of others' activities may become character knowledge.

HOWEVER--

If a player is selective, as Eli has just shown, in what he reveals (i.e., "I tell them about the Ravnos thing and the Dead Game Hall thing"), then we must assume that the rest of the player knowledge must remain separate--in other words, Eli has only told of those specific, isolated incidents.

If players choose to fill other players in, it should be stated, not taken for granted that "Once we're together, we know what's been going on."

Thoughts?

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OOC: I agree with the above. In fact, I pretty well assumed that was the case. Makes for better storytelling.
On another note: Perhaps it would be helpful if you, Neuromortis, would describe the board setup, including positions and pieces (and who is and isn't on the board and what piece they are) as the info may or may not be relevant.

ie, if the pieces are relevant, but the positions aren't, great, just give us the piece info. Of course if the reverse is true, that might be helpful as well.

BTW, I personally love the Chess aspect, as I've played the game for many years.

OOC/ sorry about the rook flub. a description of the chessboard might be a good thing. I also like the Chess aspect, and I do like chess, but like Eli I'm terrible at the game.

Hey, Eli started the chess thing. I just grabbed the reins—so thanks, Eli, for a new possibility. gRiN.

The board is as follows, mentioning only the ‘higher ranks.’ (Pawns in constant flux.)

Black, from left to right:

Rook, Altiriel, Elijah, Voracia, empty, unknown, Vash, Rook

White, from left to right:

Rook, Oldan, Szandor, unknown, empty, unknown, Niko, Rook

For those not placed, don’t worry. There’s a reason.

Krouser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ooc/
though it is still up to neuromortis (or whoever decides to describe the board layout), I would be somewhat suprised if Krouser is represented. As it is, the character is somewhat estranged from politics, and thus a harder peice to manipulate. Also, there have been signs that him having access to the hall is more a case of someone 'taking steps' than any political modivation.

still, I concede that Krouser would likely be the last one to know if he WAS being manipulated, so the point is still up in the air.

chess is a nice angle. A lot more workable than an eternal game of antideluvian strip poker.

Vash
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Vash glances around the room, intrigued*

This is much nicer then the kitchen, broom closet and crawl space combined.

Hey, chess!

*Vash walks over to the board and crouches down to look at the pieces from eye level. He notices a familiar black knight*

Is that me?

*Vash's eye's move across the board*

Oh, Miss Voracia's my queen, huh? Guess I shouldn't be taping notes on her then.

*Vash stands up and turns to Elijah*

Who's winning?

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To Vash:
"It doesn't appear that anyone has moved, yet...

"What strikes me as interesting is that, if this were a 'proper' game, Altiriel, Voracia, you and I would be facing off against Oldan, Szandor, and Nikodemus. Uh... hm. And Voracia is our queen, but the queen on other team, we haven't met her yet.

"And the Kings are safely tucked away somewhere, I'm certain."

There his more than a hint of anger in Elijah's voice.

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I wonder why we were separated along those lines, Slayer? And it has ever been the nature of Kings to keep themselves safe and separate. That's why they're kings. If they couldn't use others to protect themselves, someone else would be king.

"And how come I get stuck witht the gypsy?

"You know, Slayer, you mentioned something interesting...if this were a 'proper' game, Altiriel, Voracia, you and I would be facing off against Oldan, Szandor, and Nikodemus. Now let's say the object of the game isn't to oppose each other, but to work together to accomplish some goal. Or is that a tad too far-fetched. Otherwise, I'm gonna collect one Ravnos, and one Nossie and we're gonna go find our queen and to heck with you lot."

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Yes, yes, I know -- but in the game the king is right there with all the pieces. So regardless of how many septillion possible moves the Tall Man was going on about in a proper game of chess, this isn't a proper game... and you can't win.

"As to why we were separated along the lines..."

He shrugs.

"Who knows? Perhaps our backgrounds lend towards our aligning -- or being manipulated by -- one faction or another.

"Not that I intend to be at all cooperative, if I can help it."

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Or, perhaps our goal is to create our respective kings."

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"It could be. I'm afraid my distaste of being a chesspiece in someone else's cosmic game is clouding my judgement. I tend towards placing a sinister light on all this," he says, waving his arm around, "and I suppose it might not be. I can't help it though. Any time you view the world as a game of some kind, you stop treating people as people and start using them as pawns. I can't help but see that as sinister."

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You might be looking at in the wrong light.

"What if it's not a game that people are playing, but an accurate representation of the current state of affairs? What if, instead of using this to plot moves and manipulations, the owner is instead trying to keep track of who's who and who's doing what?"

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I can't see it. Real Life has far many more choices than chess. You can't accurately keep track of what's going on the world by modelling it on a chess board -- unless you are so arrogant that you're willing to assume your gamepieces will be predictable."

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"But you're still thinking of it as a game...I'm thinking of it more like a map...or a radar screen.

"Something to say...'Hey...Nikodemus is threatening Elijah. But Elijah is able to threaten back, although noone else is.' Better change the board to reflect that.

"Sun-Tzu wrote 'The Art of War', at the time, one of the most revolutionary treatises on war. That book is still read, not because people need to know the particulars of how war was waged in Ancient China, but because of the ideas it so easily represented. See the parallel?"

Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Walks over to the board

(To self)

I wonder if I should be glad or not that I have no piece right now.

Turns to the Niko and Elijah

Now I'm not saying either of you are wrong but if it is a sort of radar then why has only one piece been moved. Does that mean that only those people have done anything to warrant an advance in position or does it mean something else. I still have to wonder if the piece that each person represents is important and why are certain of us not represented at all? Is there another chess board somewhere that has some of the rest of us or do some of these pieces change when some of us do something significant to who or whatever is using these boards.

I have forgoten my past, now if only it would forget me.-David

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Well, you're not on the board, but..."

Elijah indicates the other gamepieces off to the side.

"Looks like you can come on board at any time."

------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and then I became them.

Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now if only I knew if that was a good thing or not.

Looks at board again

I wonder what would happen if one of us tried to move some of the pieces or even if we tried to play a game. Would that cause some change that we could see or would we even be able to change anything on the board.

------------------
I have forgoten my past, now if only it would forget me.-David

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Of course it's a good thing.

"I've been thinking about this color schema. Now here's a possibility. Far-fetched, but it's a possibility none-the-less.

"Now think about the colors...white can stand for purity, while black can stand for corruption.

"Could this not be a reflection on our own feelings about being a vampire?

"Now, I'm working with incomplete data here, but...here goes.

"I am completely comfortable with being a vampire. I don't believe Oldan has much of a problem with it either. Now, Szandor might be a different story.

"I do know that our resident Vampire Slayer here has more than a few qualms about the whole situation, and I'd be guessing here, but isn't it possible that the rest of you do as well?

"Ok, I know it's a longshot, but there it is.

"As far as the pieces goes, I dunno. I suppose Elijah would be a good Bishop, but I'd sooner put him in the Knight category, myself."

Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looks up from the board to look at Niko

That seems to be a good starting hypothesis but why is Altiriel one of the black pieces. I can't really speak for his true feelings about being what he is but he seems to be at peace with it, at least on the surface. Though that does seem to be a good working hypothesis as far as I can see, other than Altiriel of course and maybe a few others that I just can't think of at the moment.

------------------
I have forgoten my past, now if only it would forget me.-David

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Well, now here's a sweeping generalization, but aren't all Salubri generally opposed to being a vampire. Isn't that why there aren't supposed to be more than seven of them at a time. And, aren't the Salubri the ones that desperately seek Golconda? That would indicate to me a general desire not to be a vampire."

Voracia
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...and how does your idealism account for the Garou?"

She stands silently in the doorway, observing the proceedings through the ever-present eyeshades.

"There are Garou upon the board, are there not?"

She steps closer, taking in the miniature assembly.

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Not that I can see. I think everybody here is a vampire. At least the ones we can identify."

Voracia
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What is it upon which the gypsy rides, then?"

Her eyes remain upon the board.

"A doggie?"

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"But it's the gypsy, as the rider, not the Garou as the mount.

"Much like the piece is called a Knight...at least it's supposed to be, not a 'horsey'."

Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now I don't know too much about Golconda but I thought that part of attaining it was coming to terms with what you have become but like I said I don't know too much about the subject so I could be wrong.
