On the surface,
an Elysium of unsurpassed splendor. Beneath, something sinister lurks...
Darkana1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Darkana yells
**** and pulls a gun out and blows up a small statue near the trapdoor
and a second, unfortunatly at least half the people in the hall saw them,
a high up member of the Camarilla a Ventrue, and a particularly bestial
looking Tzimice dressed like some kind of Cardinals robes
------------------
Its people like you that give kindred a bad name,
its people like me that makes it worse
Altiriel Twice-Born
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The king is cunning," Altiriel says softly, unknowingly--or
perhaps knowingly--echoing the thoughts in Elijah's mind. "He waits
in the shadows and pulls the strings, so that even the queen isn't sure
who the king is until it's too late."
Altiriel turns to the Tall
Man. "Considering what I have seen, you are not overly surprising.
But pray, why do you ask me of the 4th Century? I was born a Scottish
peasant boy in the 12th Century, and even then I did not survive long
before my family was dead and I was begging in the streets. I did not
have the benefit of mass education.
"Any answer I give is
likely to be wrong."
Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now if only we could figure out who the king in this little game is. For
that matter it might be useful to figure out which of us are actually
represented with pieces and which part that piece plays. Of us only Elijah
has actually seen the board and he isn't here to tell us what the set-up
is. If I remember what he told us earlier the board was set up as normal
and there were still pieces left over on the side. This sort of reminds
me of a variation in which you are allowed to replace some of your lost
pieces with new pieces that have other abilities. Now if only the Hunter
and Salubri would return maybe we could get some answers to these questions.

OldanVisuce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Am thinking I understand a little. Does anyone remember seeing Larson's
piece? Black as night, yes? *hold's up his own statue, which is white*
Is all pieces here white?
Am thinking has to do with
Path we have taken. I have chosen humanity, and have White piece. Larson
chose Path of Beast and has Black. Am thinking it has to do with that.
So, question is: Who is King
of Beasts and who is King of Humanitas?
Yes, no? Or maybe Oldan thinking
he is philosopher again?
Vash
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Vash glances around at the group. He removes his chess piece from his
pocket and stares at it. The piece seems to stare back*
Well... I want to know what
piece I represent on the board... I better not be a pawn, that's for sure.
*Vash flips the piece in the
air and catches it*
Maybe one of us here is the
King? That would be funny, no?
Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I'm with you Vash. If I'm on the board, I wanna know what side I'm
on and what piece I'm representing.
"Oldan, I don't know that
it's Beast vs. Humanitas, although that's a good start. It could easily
be Camarilla vs Sabbat...or something much more obscure. I don't follow
either the path of humanity, nor the path of the beast. Then again, I
might not be one of the players.
"You can learn alot about
a person by the attributes they assign to symbols."
Vash
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Vash stands up*
Let's go see this chessboard
with our own eyes... Maybe we'll get some answers that aren't needlessly
cryptic.
*Vash turns and heads down
the hall*
Okay... I think it's this way...
or maybe this way?
OldanVisuce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aye, Niko, this is what I meant. But, I am not Camarilla OR Sabbat. I
think it would have more to do with personal belief, maybe?
And if you do not eat everything
that move, that means, in the Sabbat's eyes, you are enemy.
Like I said, maybe Oldan thinking
he is philosopher again, and is just babbling!
Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm with Vash and Niko on this. I think we need to find that chess board
and see for ourselves what people are represented and what parts they
play. And who knows maybe Elijah and Altiriel are there and in need of
aid. I also agree with Oldan to a point though I don't think which color
the piece is is anything as simple as which path or which sect we belong
to, of course this is only a guess and I could be completely wrong.

Elijah Robert Marks
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Elijah looked at the Tall Man.
"This is not a game of
Chess," he said.
"In Chess, the idea is
to take the king while defending your own. The number of pieces you capture,
or the number of pieces that are taken from you, are irrelevant... so
long as your King is untouched, and the other King is taken.
"In this game," Elijah
continued, gesturing to the game set up on the table before him, "the
Kings aren't on the board. So obviously, the point isn't to capture the
King."
Elijah's face was blank, but
his eyes were watching the Tall Man intently.
"So what is the point?
I'll tell you what it reminds me of... two armies lined up against each
other, poised to hack each other to bits, while the Kings sit back and
watch. Not a game of skill, not a game requiring any sort of tactics whatsoever,
but a simple game of slaughter. Or a complex game of slaughter."
------------------
I didn't hate the kindred; I just hunted them. Then they found me, and
then I became them.
OldanVisuce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem. How do we find them? Halls are like maze. Many doors. They are
in one, but which? I do not feel like re-living past 150 times in order
to find friend Elijah and Altiriel.
*mimics situation of opening
door* Oops, sorry. No not again, I have seen this situation 32 times already
and I don't feel like passing out again. No? You are not going to let
me leave and close door until you are done with me. AAAHHHHHHHH!!
*shrugs shoulders* Maybe if
we had contact with them.... but since that is not situation, we have
to wait for them to find us, or for Elijah to appear covered in blood
again. What or whoever threw out Elijah, probably doesn't want more company.
If it threw just him out, I doubt if it will react well with whole group
of Kindred knocking on door.
*shouts to the Hall* You know,
I could REALLY use game of chess right now! It would be good if we could
find a nice set to play with! *pauses, expectantly* No? Oldan out of ideas
now.
*looks at Vash, David and Niko*
Any ideas?
Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Let's try a very scientific method. They went this way, ostensibly,
am I right?"
At Oldan's nod of assent, Nikodemus stepped a short way down the hall.
"ELIIIIJAAAAAH...ALTIIIIRIEEEEEL"
Nikodemus yelled.
"Now we see if there's
an answer."

Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
David watches as Niko goes into the hallway and yells
Not exactly the most scientific process but I think you may have something
there. So far none of us have been attacked directly outside of the rooms,
correct. So why don't we go at least to the first intersection and try
again. If that doesn't work then maybe we can then maybe try the next
intersection. Or maybe one of us can trace the trail that Elijah left
the last time he came out. He was covered in blood after all.
Stops to think for a moment
Of course with some of the
tricks this place has been playing there may no longer be any trail or
Elijah and Altiriel may not even have gone to the same room.

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I've been alone each time I've had my...experiences. Has it been
the same with you?
"If so, that in and of itself may provide us with some protection.
Maybe all of the intended damage is purely psychological, but I'd rather
not take the chance unless absolutely necessary."
OldanVisuce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, lets go. Who gets to lead? I take up rear, make sure we..... dont
get jumped! Yes, make sure we don't get jumped!
First time someone dead start
talking to me again, I run back here screaming like baby.
Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"With the exception of a very few, everybody that has talked to you
recently is dead Oldan...and why be so prejudiced anyway. It's not like
they want to be dead, I'm sure."
Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
David takes his weapon out of its harness and snaps it together
Well if no one objects too
much I wouldn't mind leading. Niko, I think you may be right in that together
we stand less chance of getting a sending from the hall.
Thinks for a moment
I would suggest that we mark
the path that we take but I seem to remember a movie where the main character
tried that and all of the places she marked were changed after her back
was turned, so I don't know how effective marking each place we turn would
be. Of course it probably wouldn't hurt to try. If only we had something
to use.

Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Labrynth. I loved that movie." Nikodemus said, drawing his
twin butterfly swords. "Go ahead and take point if you wish. I do
have an idea though. Let's grab some of the candles around this place.
It's better than nothing, although I'd rather have some string.
"What you do is plant
a lit candle at each intersection. Kinda tough to change light."
Nikodemus switched both swords
to his left hand. With his right, he reached into his coat pocket, drawing
out four silvery bands, two matched sets. Leaning his swords against a
chair, he put one band on his left hand. It slipped over his knuckles
and covered the back of his hand. Another band went on his left hand,
between his knuckles and the first joint of his fingers. He put another
set on his right hand.
"Of course, someone could
come along and blow the candles out, but I have yet to feel a breeze in
this place."
Reaching into his left pocket,
he drew out a piece of metal, about six inches in diameter, joined to
another piece by a band of cloth. He shrugged out of his coat and placed
the band of cloth on his left shoulder. There were two added slips of
elastic on each disc. These were snapped onto Nikodemus's shirt.
"I guess I'm ready when
you are."
OldanVisuce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*looks at Niko's strange contraption, half confusion, half appraisingly*
What is that Niko? *as he is gathering candles and putting them in various,
hidden pockets*
Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heh. Nikodemus points to his chest.
"I assume you mean this.
After I got nearly staked by one of Elijah's friends, I had a friend of
mine make me this. It's designed to protect me from getting staked."
Stormcaller
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Watches in wonder as Oldan puts candle after candle into his coat with
no sign that there is anything different
Well as soon as Oldan finishes with his fun I guess we will be ready to
go unless someone else wishes to come with us which would be most welcome
if we run in to any kind of trouble.
Glances at Niko's armor
Thats quite a nice piece of
work you have there. Makes me wish I had been given some kind of protection
when I got this.
Points to his weapon
Though I guess this will have
to do.

I have forgoten my past, now if only it would forget me.-David
Nikodemus
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Damn Oldan...how many pockets do you have? Hey, don't take all the
candles. We're gonna need some light to get back by." Nikodemus says
the next part much lower in volume. "Assuming we make it back."
"Oh, and I think I can
get you guys one of these," Nikodemus taps his plating with his index
fingernail, raising a 'ting' from it. ",if we get..errr when we get
back. You're gonna have to pay for it yourselves, and this guy doesn't
take money."
Vash
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*A section of the floor rattles in front of the group. The carpet in the
hallway seems to move. Suddenly, a blade sticks through the carpet and
the floor. It slices through the carpet, until it cuts three sides of
a square. A muffled voice from under the floor speaks up*
There we go...
*A trapdoor flips open, knocking
the sliced carped out of the way and Vash crawls out. He stands up and
dusts himself off before sticking the knife back in his jacket*
Well... that's not the way.
*He notices the group*
Oh, hey... have any luck?
Too bad we don't have a Garou with us, eh?
OldanVisuce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, think I have enough. *shrugs shoulders* Do you know how many turns
to take? Me neither, so I bring plenty.
What pay for this "heart-shield"?
I am interested, but I somehow think that if I gave my soul it would be
cheaper.
*walks to the hallway leading
in the direction that Elijah and Altiriel went*
Last call for Hell, personal horror, and hopefully chess board. ALL ABOARD!!
*Oldan will place a lit candle
at each intersection on the side in which the coterie comes from.*
Krouser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Krouser watched as the room slowly emptied. finally, it was merely him
and voracia. He'd been waiting for this. He took the flute from his duster,
and set his fingers in the holes.
"Time to see if Coyote is as good as his word." he raised the
flute to his lips and started to play, a traditional melody, a simple
pattern, twice, and a more complex one. Krouser's blood began to heat,
as the old dances started coming back. His feet rose and fell with each
passing note, and he started to dance down a hallway, specificaly away
from the one he remembered Elijah and the Salubri entering. His eyes closed,
his skin forgot everything but the dance, and his ears heard only the
music....
until he ran into a door. He
opened his eyes, and put the flute back in his duster, as he rubbed his
head. He glanced into the room, seeing Elijah, Atiriel, and some old cainite
sitting around a chess board talking. He closed the door before they noticed
him. He'd wait for the others.
"I guess Coyote was as
good as his word. I'll have to remember this."
